Printed Magazine:
The original form of magazine before the existence of digital magazine.

Differences between Printed and Digital Magazine:

Printed media has a limited space and its content has to be strategically placed . Hence, the size of the font has just right to fit the size of the paper. Besides that, visual hierarchy plays an important role.

Meanwhile, digital magazines has no spatial constraints, allowing the designer creative freedom to customize the content of the magazine completely.

5 types of Magazines:

Childrens magazines:

Childrens magazines are mainly for children which would contain mainly photos and rarely would contain any writing, this is because children who would read these magazines wouldn't entirely enjoy reading, therefore making it more effective for them to engage with the photos. Depending on what is presented in the magazine is most likely who the audience will be, this is shown as if the predominant colour is pink or has a main cover with Beauty, this'll most likely be for girls as the stereotypes for what girls tend to like is playing with hair and tell fairytales. Whereas for boys, the main basis of the magazine would tend to be action comics as boys stereotypically tend to love action. As children will use these magazines to educate themselves, they can be considered as explorers.

Business magazines:

Business magazines would stereotypically be used for aspirers and entrepreneurs who want more information on how to improve their wealth. The contents would usually include a few photos of motivation with a lot of information on ways to get richer with methods and step by step guides. In my opinion, I feel like stereotypically boys will be interested in business magazines as many role models in the business industry are males.

Art magazines:

Art magazines would usually include many colourful and vibrant photos to captivate people who have an interest in art.  In my opinion, I feel as if the stereotypical interest for art are those people who are creative and practical. Nowadays, art comes in many forms, whether it be 3-dimensional or 2-dimensional, with exotic colours or bland. people who are interested could be considered as explorers as they may want to explore deeper into the artistic world.

Travel magazines:

Travel magazines are mainly for people who enjoy going to other places (explorers). The writing would usually be in big writing with prices being discounted and photos of the place you will be visiting which will be made as best as it can to further attract their audiences. The age range of people who would actually think of buying what is presented could be those who are aged 21+ as, stereotypically, that is the age where someone is mature and old enough to make a decision to travel.  These types of magazines may be used internationally to show the world a wonderful location which people could travel to.

News Magazines:

News magazines can be used as a way to broadcast information, such as gossip, to the public which is expressed in only one fixed point of view. This would mainly be used for people who want to explore more of the worlds issues (Mainly Explorers but could also fit into Succeeders).  This is beneficial as it could alert people of the things which is going on. A major example is how there is conflict between countries at the very moment and without news magazines, some people might stay confused as to what is happening.

I feel as if the News magazines would tend to be national/ international depending on how big the situation is.

Codes & Conventions:

In this sports magazine, I can visually see a Mid shot/Medium Long shot of Cristiano Ronaldo, a football phenomenon, who is celebrating over what seems to be a win as his facial expressions with his NVC of him fisting the air.

I can also tell that high-key lighting has been used in this photo as he is a footballer who is set in a stadium and the stadium is well lit when people are playing on it.

The Masthead is in clear bold red writing, this appeals to the audience as it clearly states the source of this  magazine cover.

By looking at this magazine, I can infer that the main target audience would be people who either play or watch football, this is because they can have an understanding as to what is going on, prior to this magazines release.

The positives of this magazine would be that stereotypically, the magazines would be either on public transport or in shops, available for a cheap price (normally under £5), meaning that this type of magazine would be targeted regionally/nationally.
In this art magazine cover, we can visually see a woman in inverted colours of whom seems to be a very popular woman named Marilyn Monroe, who was a famous American actress, singer, and model. This is beneficial to their campaign as it also comes under Gunn's 12 types of advertising, the point being Ongoing characters and celebrities (to help cement a brand's identity)

The use of the NVC of her looking directly into the camera with her eyes blocked by a text bubble could connote that her beauty should be kept secret.

The use of the Masthead having the word "art" in bold writing could connote to their audience that it strictly is an art magazine and could refer to the contents in this magazine.

By the main colour scheme being blue and yellow, this can connote to the audience that the background portrays a sense of supernatural and give a sort of undead theme as stereotypically, as seen in many undead/zombie related games, the undead tend to have glowing eyes. this is used to show the difference between the living and the dead.

I can visually see that the first half of the page is a close up of an undead soldier from what seems to be set in the 20th Century. the second half of the page is split into 2 subsections, where one subsection shows a photo of the gameplay where we see a third person image of the main protagonist aiming a firearm at the undead which are nearing towards him. The lower subsection of the 2nd page is a brief description of the game.

The use of the main Colour Scheme being purple blending into a light shade of red, This can connote peacefulness and tranquility. this could aid their campaign as it could be used to advertise the types of places that the company could have for people looking for new housing.

I can visually see  that the first half of the magazine is mainly used for information as there are four columns full of writing. this is beneficial as it gives more space on the magazine for the large main photo to be presented on the second page, which could further connote my previous point of showing the peace and tranquility of the locations that this company could provide.

Learning Aim B:

Learning Aim C:

To start my project of making a magazine cover, I have to fit the photo into a blank page on Photoshop. to do this, I have to look at the pixels of the image and match the pixels on Photoshop
For my next step, I will be using the GreyScale option to create a black and white look to the image.
This will make the magazine
seem more simplistic and
straight-forward
For this step, I have added a title with a stereotypical "hip-hop/rap"
font in black and white to further suit the simplistic vibe I am looking for.
in this step, I have created a subtitle which links to my other units labelled "The 1 And Only". this is beneficial as it can give a little more to look at then just the title.
For the next step, I have added a quote from my own personal life which has helped me become a better person and have embedded it into my work.
After reviewing the work, I had realised that a barcode had been missing, therefore I had added a barcode so that the audience can actually purchase the product.
For my next step, I added an issue number to show both consistency and background to the product, this could show the audience that the artist is very serious about his work through the amount of issues created, I also added the price of the product and a little description as to what is inside the magazine. This has been used to make the cover more detailed for the audience to be encapsulated in the magazine.
I have added a Qr code to give the audience another way to connect with the artist, which would eventually result in more sales and more recognition.
I have rescheduled where the QR code went and have added my personal social media account to give relevancy to myself and have also added a fake website all in one box to make more information fit on the cover
In this step I have added another coverline with another font to make the cover look more creative and further ensure that my audience will not just take one look and leave it.
Finally, I have added more detail as to what would be expected for the contents of the magazine, this gives the audience an understanding as to what type of rapper he is.

Leaving the final product:

Double Page:

For my first step, I have created a template for my magazine to fit in with the right content in the right places. this then allows me to have a further understanding as to what kind of magazine I will be creating.
After realising that my background had looked too  plain and boring, this would then cause my audience to just steer away from the page which I didn't want to happen, therefore. I had made the page a mix of green and red as green blends into the grass and red would allow a little bit of contrast to the page.
The next two images are of me as the producer, putting in a few images with a headline which states "TKone Uprising" and the stand first  which contains a brief description of what is about to be shown on the page. This allows the page to become more entertaining for the audience and also allows the audience to have an understanding as to who is the actual rapper. a further explanation as to why the photos are in a crossed pattern instead of being one above the other is due to making the page look at filled as possible and I personally believe I have achieved that goal.
The details labelled inside of the white circles is a way to give depth and make the double page feel more realistic.
The first half of the article has been included which is a simple description of the artist and what makes him special.
The second half of the article has been included which is a questionnaire of which includes a little background of him and how he is doing in the music industry.

Leaving the final product:

Final Evaluation:

For my final evaluation, in terms of meeting the brief requirements, I believe that I have completed both front cover and double page efficiently where it appeals to the target audience of people aged 16-35. This can be explained through the Mise En Scene.

The Setting/Location which the photos take place in is a combination of out and about and indoors and in the studio. The 'out and about' setting gives the audience an understanding that the producer does in fact have time to go out and is open to the world. Another reasoning as to why the artist is in front of a football goal could be to draw in the audience as football is a very popular sport around the planet. In the main photo, the location seems to be in a studio, which links to the brief as this could connote that he is a producer of some sort. This could finalise a point which is that he manages to balance his life out very well.

The use of the low angle shots could connote to the audience that the artist is ahead of the game and he is proud of his achievements in his past, which could also relate to the use of the High angle shot connotes that he is looking forward for what the future has to hold.

The Costume in particular has been used in a fancy yet untidy manner to attract the age range of 16 to 35 year olds, and as the range is very wide, this means that many age stereotypes have to be mended to include both the older generation and the younger generation.

The use of the highkey lighting in the pieces connotes to the audience that the artist feels more in touch with the audience and that the audience could have a mutual understanding with the artist.

I have also included two photography locations to include a variety of setting for the audience to understand the depth of character and how connecting the artist is.

One thing which could be improved upon could be the variety of camera angles as the only ones that were used were close up for the cover and a mix of high and low angles for the double page.
